Sylvia "Sugar"'s Story
Sylvia "Sugar" L. Asbury, 96 of Bluefield, VA, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 17, 2017. Born in Bluefield, VA, she was the daughter of the late James Truby and Margaret Vicie Blackwell Lampert. She had worked for the Tazewell County Schools as a cook for over 20 years. She was the last surviving member of her family. Sugar was the oldest member of Graham Christian Church and enjoyed attending the various Ladies Circle events.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James Thomas Asbury; son: Ronnie Asbury; grandson: Michael Wayne Asbury; brothers: Jim Lampert, Gene Lampert, Bobby Lampert and Randolph Blackwell.
She will be lovingly and affectionately missed by her son: Tommy Asbury and wife, Shirley of Bluff City, TN; daughter and caregiver: Pam Daniels and companion, Dave McKinney; brother-in-law: Hubert Asbury of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters-in-law: Betty Asbury of Bear, Delaware, Polly Lampert and Ruth Lampert both of Bluefield, VA; grandchildren: Dondria Asbury and Lori Jarvis and husband, Dennis; great-grandchild: Sierra Stophel; great great-grandson: Brayden Michael; daughter-in-law: Peggy Asbury of Bluefield, VA and her 4 children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Sugar's life will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Dudley Memorial.
