Text size

Samuel Jeeter Workman, age 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, June 18, 2017, at his Bluefield, VA (West Graham) home, with his loving wife Cynthia and granddaughter Maddison Bowen holding his hands.
Jeeter was born October 10, 1946, to Glen Willard Workman and Roselyn Witt Workman. They preceded him in death, as did brothers Ronald Workman and Kyle Wayne Workman, both of Bluefield, Virginia. Niece Julie Kay Workman Osmon of Elizabeth City, NC, great-niece Joanna Ernst Moseley of Hazelhurst, GA and father-in-law Ballard "Buck" McGraw of Anawalt, WV, also preceded him.
Greatly beloved by all his family, Jeeter is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Yvonne McGraw Workman of the home, daughter Cecilla (John) Bowen of Fairmont and Huntington, WV, and son Samuel J. (Crissy) Workman Jr. of Abbs Valley, VA. Grandchildren include Christopher (Angela) Bowen and Adam (Heather) Bowen of Boone, NC, Maddison, Baylee and Rubee Bowen of Fairmont, WV, and Kenzie and Emily Epperson and Paden Jeeter Workman of Abbs Valley.
Additional survivors are Glen (Dee) Workman, Jr., Princeton, WV, Janice Ernst, Hazelhurst, GA and Sarah (Doug) Deel, Brunswick, GA; brother-in-law Brenen (Mary) McGraw, Anawalt, WV; sisters-in-law Thelma Workman, Bluefield, VA, Carlene Workman, Bluefield, VA and Donna (Doug) Wise, Bluefield, WV; and former sister-in-law Vicki Workman-Rushbrook and her husband and Jeeter's good friend Chuck Rushbrook, of Bramwell, WV. He is also survived by his adoring mother-in-law Belva Kathleen McGraw, Dogwood Crossing, Tazewell, VA, and special friends Anthony "Rudy" and Brenda Sheets of Abbs Valley, VA. He will never be forgotten by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all who love him dearly.
Jeeter is also survived by his Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church brethren, having shared many blessed Sunday and Wednesday evening services and meals together, where his chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, and sweet tea would have you coming back for more.
While his friends are too innumberable to name, the Tazewell County Relay for Life Cancer Support group and his buddies at the local auctions must be remembered as they were all important to him. Not to be forgotten and greatly appreciated are the doctors, nurses, and other medical staff who provided him excellent care the past 24 years.
His life's work was in construction and he never failed to use his skills, talents and time to help anyone who asked him.
Samuel Jeeter Workman's family will be welcoming friends to Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church (West Graham), Bluefield, VA, on Wednesday, June 21, from 5 pm until 8 pm. His committal service, with Pastor Ray Petty officiating, will be in the historical section of Maple Hill Cemetery on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:45 pm, at Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Samuel J. Workman, Jr., Shade Workman, Christopher Bowen, Adam Bowen, Eric Workman, and Ray Workman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church or one may bring pet supplies, to the church, to be donated to Pet Haven in Jeeter's name.
