BLUEFIELD, Va. — Sammie D. Shawver, 82, of Bluefield, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Born in Bland County, he was the son of the late Walker Davis and Elizabeth Alice Faulkner Shawver.
Sammie was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Bland, VA. He served as a Sunday school teacher and was a faithful witness to his abiding faith and a servant to his fellow man. He loved to read and study his Bible. He was a good steward of his time, as he raised cattle, was a bee keeper, a farmer and a coal miner, all to provide for his family. He was a faithful and loving husband and father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years: Helen Louise Harmon Shawver; a brother: Edward Shawver and an infant sister.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons: Todd Shawver of Smithfield, VA and Troy Shawver of Connelly Springs, NC; brother: Gratt Shawver and wife, Janet of Bluefield, VA; granddaughters: Anna, Julia Caroline and Lauren Shawver.
A service to celebrate Sammie's life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel. Entombment will follow at Grandview Mausoleum, with VFW Post #9696 and Pocahontas American Legion Post #14 conducting Military Rites.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
