PILGRIMS KNOB, Va. — Rodney Lynn Wimmer, age 55, of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, Virginia following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Wimmer was born on May 23, 1961 in Richlands, Virginia to the late Columbus and Lula Patrick Wimmer. He was a 1979 graduate of Whitewood High School and later worked as a coal miner and truck driver. He was a loving and kind husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.
Rodney loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his grandchildren; they were his life. Rodney had a passion for traveling and making new friends, he never met a stranger. He spent many hours reading and learning new things, he was a jack of all trades. His laughter was contagious and his eyes twinkled with the joy he felt inside. He was proud to be a country boy and was known as an all-around fine man with true grit, who spent his life living in the Compton Mountain area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and Ronald Wimmer.
Those left to cherish his memory include His wife: Cathy Wimmer. Daughters: Donna Wimmer Cline and husband, Nick of Abingdon, Virginia, Mary Wimmer and fiance', James Belcher of Vansant, Virginia. Stepdaughter: Charley Nicole Stevens and husband, Cody of Compton Mountain, Virginia. Sisters: Doris Wimmer and Debbie Potter, both of Compton Mountain, Virginia. Brothers: Dennis Wimmer and wife, Clarice of Compton Mountain, Virginia, Chris Wimmer and wife, Jennifer of Avondale, West Virginia. Grandchildren: Kylee Brooke Cline, Skylar, Lynne Cline, Lane Cline, Isabella Star Cook, Deagan Elijah Cook, and Colton Rodney Stevens. His special friends, the family of Floyd Lester and several nephews and nieces also survive him.
Funeral services for Rodney Lynn Wimmer will be conducted at 11AM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Jay Cole and Charlie Rose officiating. Interment will follow at the Lum Wimmer Family Cemetery on Compton Mountain near Whitewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Riley Payne, Chris Wimmer, Thomas Wimmer, Brandon Wimmer, Van Lester, Bubby Lester, Tanner Sykes, Jeff Horn, Jr., Nick Cline, and James Belcher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dennis Wimmer, Judy Street, Joseph Wimmer, Landon Wimmer, Jeff Horn, Sr., Christian Wimmer, Dr. Sami Jawad, Norman Hagerman, Dr. Brenda Goodman, Jonathan Wimmer, and the Employees of Family Care Center.
The family will receive friends from 6PM-9PM, Friday evening, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
