PRINCETON — Robert Hoover Hager, 86, of Princeton, died Friday, March 17, 2017 following a lengthy illness. Born August 25, 1930 in Giles County, VA, he was the son of the late Abe Lee Hager and Edgar (Edna) Mae Cecil Hager.
Mr. Hager worked as a logger and carpenter in his younger years. He was a friend to many people, helping in times of need. He was a friend and watchman over many businesses in downtown Princeton, notifying merchants when he suspected a problem, shoveling their sidewalks and running errands. He was always available to help any way he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Lee Hager and Everett Hager; and one sister, Emma Jean Skeens.
Survivors include one brother, Chester Hager and wife Phyllis of Princeton; five children, Sharon Rottenberry, Sheila Amos, Wayne Hager, Barbara Carter and Bobby Akers; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Nancy Champ.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, there will be no viewing or services. The body will be cremated and interment will be at the New Zion Cemetery at Elgood.
