Reverend Lillie's Story
BLUEFIELD — Reverend Lillie L. Williams, 89 of Bluefield was called from labor to her reward on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.
Rev. Williams was born on January 31, 1927 in Jenkinjones, WV. She was the eldest of ten children born to Reverend James Scales and Stella Scales. She attended McDowell County public schools. She has a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader.
Rev. Williams received her calling to preach some fifty years ago and pastured for more than forty years. Her pastoral duties were in Virginia and West Virginia. Even after retiring as a pastor, she held at-home bible study until her health would no longer allow her to continue. She served for many years as Conference Secretary for the East Tennessee and Virginia Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gus Williams; two brothers; five sisters; and two daughters, Margaret Green and Sandra Ross; and one grandson, Jonathan Strange.
Left to cherish her memories are her brother, James Scales and wife Linda of Columbus, OH; her sister, Frances Jordan and husband Ernest of Cleveland, OH; her children, Janie Martin and husband Ted of Columbus, OH, Kathy Sharp of Charlotte, NC, Rev. James Green and wife Janet of Winston Salem, NC, Dorothy Craft and husband Lamar of Columbus, OH, Samuel Strange and wife Carrietta of Concord, NC, and Nichole Farrer and her husband Sean; seventeen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children, extended relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church in Bluefield with Pastor Woody Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Littlesburg Rd., Bluefield. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
