Reverend Johnny's Story
SPEEDWAY — Reverend Johnny Claborn Gray, 84, of Speedway died Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his residence. Born May 30, 1932 in Covel, WV he was the son of the late Emmitt Harvey Gray and Lillian Justice Gray.
Reverend Gray was a retired Ordained Minister starting his ministry career in the Church of God, Headquarters Cleveland, TN. For sixty seven years he served as Minister in churches in Logan County, Greenbrier County, Mercer County and McDowell County and also served as an Evangelist in numerous churches in the Eastern United States. He was a member of the Princeton Church of God. Reverend Gray was also a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Diane Gray; three brothers; and eight sisters.
Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Marie Emmaleen Moore Gray of Speedway; five sons, Rev. Johnny Wayne Gray and wife Josephine of Pettrey, WV, Michael Stephen Gray, Timothy Allen Gray and wife Angela, David Kevin Gray and wife Emma Lou and Shawn Michael Gray all of Speedway; one daughter, Rebecca Carol Cook and husband Thomas of Speedway; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Robinson of Wilmington, DE.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Princeton Church of God with Rev. Mike Hartwell, Rev. Roger Yates and Rev. Johnny Wayne Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with the Mercer County Veterans Council conducting military graveside rites at the Chapel of the Wildwood Mausoleum. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
