Mrs. Gearldean L.'s Story
WILCOE Mrs. Gearldean L. Roberson Redd age 89, of Wilcoe, WV, who departed this life on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Westwood Nursing Center in Bluefield, VA, following illness.
She was born April 20, 1928 in Pearisburg, VA, and the daughter of the late Janie (Conner) and Henry Summers Sr. and Oscar E. and Mabel (Ridley) Roberson. She was a graduate of Genoa High School and attended Bluefield State College. For the past 71 years, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Wilcoe, where she served as Mother of the Church. In earlier years, she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Choir.
In addition to both her birth and adopted parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Redd Sr., and her (infant) daughter, Gloria J. Redd; five siblings: Frances Elaine Donaldson, Charles "Mickey," Cicero , Joseph and Henry Summers Jr. Mrs. Redd was the last surviving member of her original family.
She leaves a life time of treasured memories to her devoted sons: James W. Redd Jr., and wife, Guenda of Ft. Worth, TX, William L. Redd and wife, Marie of Huntington, WV, Michael L. Redd and wife, Bonita of Welch and Robert D. Redd and wife, Trudy of Bluefield; eight grandchildren: Belinda, James III., LeMarquis, D'Ann, Jonathan, Randall, Kyle, and Alec; 10 great-grandchildren: Desmond, Kennedy, Morgan, Dallas, Javier, Jayvian, Jaliyah, Janessa, King and Kayla; two great-great-grandchildren, Asher and A'Niya and a host of nephews, nieces; other relatives, neighbors and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Wilcoe, with the Reverend David Cooper and the Reverend Jerome Powell officiating. Entombment will follow in Rest lawn Mausoleum, on Rt. 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell, WV.
Her grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., until time of Service on Saturday at the Church.
Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
