BLUEFIELD, Va. — Miss Mattie Jane Gillespie, age 70 of Bluefield, VA entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Westwood Center in Bluefield, VA. Born November 13, 1946 at Bluefield, VA, she was a daughter of the late Jefferson and Mattie Gillespie.
Although Miss Gillespie was mentally challenged, she was able to attend Tazewell County Public Schools. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She loved music and will be remembered by her love for children and her gentleness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Marie Hurt, Velma Bradshaw, Nancy Bradshaw, Gwendolyn Goforth, and Yvonne Shanklin; two brothers, Robert Gillespie and Donald Gillespie; several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Martin her best friend and caretaker of Bluefield, VA and Betty Sales of Dayton, OH; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives including a niece, Zenobia Hurt and Jack who visited regularly to add love and joy to Jane's day.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel at Bluewell, WV with the Reverend William R. Spencer officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
