Miss Mary Lea's Story
RAVEN, Va. — Miss Mary Lea Frances Cruey, age 86, of Raven, Virginia, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 21, 2017.
She was born in Red Ash, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Melvin George and Caulbert Palmer-Cruey.
She was a lifelong resident of the Road Ridge community. Miss Cruey was a graduate of Radford College, Woman's Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Miss Cruey was a teacher of the Tazewell County school system, being an elementary and business education teacher for 39 years. Miss Cruey attended Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Mary Lea was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Meldie Juanita Cruey and Opal Gaynell Cruey. However, she is survived by devoted friends and caregivers, including Keith and Sabaraina Ball, Jonathon Ball, Jason and Alexsis Ball, Joshua Ball, Samantha Lawson, Dakota Ball, Elliot Ball, Patsy Byrd, and Jean Ann Salyers, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Miss Mary Lea Frances Cruey was given assistance by Divine Home Care. The caregivers of Miss Cruey express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided to them and their dear friend. As well, the caregivers appreciate the support of Mike and the staff of Community Home Care Services of Richlands.
Miss Cruey will be missed by her close friends who will always remember her endearingly.
Graveside services for Mary Lea Frances Cruey will be conducted Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 2pm at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia with the Rev. John D. Smith officiating. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be friends of the Cruey family—Keith Ball, Jason Ball, Joshua Ball, and Jonathon Ball. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Dale and John D. Smith.
