Peterstown, WV. — Michael Alexander McGuire, 61, of Peterstown, WV, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg, VA. Michael was born in Hickory, NC, on February 24, 1956, and was the son of the late Richard Alexander McGuire and Edith Virginia Saunders McGuire. Michael was a graduate of Peterstown High School and received a B.S. in Biology from Concord College. He was employed as a medical technologist until his health prevented him from working. Michael attended Appalachian Christian Center and enjoyed gardening and caring for his home and little dog. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Randall Kelly McGuire. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Cammie Reese McGuire; two sisters, Marion Meade of Elkins, WV, and Elizabeth Ann Smith of Starksville, MS; one brother, Ernest Clayton McGuire of Dover, DE; two step sons, Malcolm Dillon and wife Tina, and Foley Dillon and wife Teresa, all of Peterstown, WV. Michael donated his remains to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA, for research in the possible cure of juvenile diabetes. Michael had battled juvenile diabetes courageously for over fifty years and always hoped for a cure.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Springfield Nursing Home in Lindside, WV, with Pete Dunford officiating.
