Margaret Woodie's Story
ABINGDON, VA Margaret Woodie Rosenheim Carter of Abingdon, VA died Saturday July 22, 2017 in Johnson City, TN after suffering a heart attack. Born October 12, 1942 in Bluefield, WV, she was the daughter of the late James Mitchell and Lucille Aldworth Rosenheim. Margaret graduated from Bluefield High School in 1960 and attended nursing school at St. Petersburg Junior College, graduating in 1963 as a Registered Nurse. She loved working in the Operating Room, and spent the rest of her career in St. Petersburg as an O.R. Nurse and Supervisor.
In her senior year of high school, Margaret was voted "Friendliest" by her classmates, a distinction that followed her throughout life. She was kind, compassionate, and giving to everyone she metthe most special kind of person and a dear friend to many.
After retiring to Abingdon, VA in 2006, Margaret joined St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Saltville, VA, where she was active in the vestry.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband James Thomas Carter and her sister Mary Ellen Rosenheim.
Left to cherish her memory are her son James Edmond "Jim" Carter, his wife Linda, and grandchildren Savannah Jane and Henry Mitchell Carter, all of Atlanta, GA; aunt Lucy Humphreys of Kensington, MD; brother-in-law Max Rhea of Meadowview, VA; sister-in-law Nancy Counts of Damascus, MD; niece Grace Smith; nephews John Counts, David Rhea and Walt Rhea; cousins David, Chuck, George and Mary McGonagle, Barbara Groont, Frances Almond, Anna Cyphers, Christina Weary, and Winnie Lee Haynes.
Memorial services will be held on Monday July 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Christ Episcopal Church in Bluefield, WV with the Rev. Chad Slater officiating. Friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM at the church library. Private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Damascus Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 458, Damascus, VA 24236.
