Lula Mae's Story
Lula Mae Hankins Hunter, age 87 of Pearl City, Hawaii and North Tazewell, VA passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 in Hawaii. Born October 1, 1929 at the family farm in Russell County, VA she was a daughter of the late Ezra Paris Hankins and Nellie H. Hankins. Lou was retired as Vice President of American National Bank/Central Fidelity Bank in Portsmouth, VA and Branch Manager at Navy Federal Credit Union in Pearl City, Hawaii. She was deeply involved with family genealogy and spent many years doing research. Lou was a great friend to many and treated everyone like family. The family would like to give a special thank you to her wonderful neighbors in Hawaii. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Cullen Potter; one son, Wendell Cullen Potter; eight brothers, Hugh Stras Hankins, Marion Henry Hankins, Carl Bascom Hankins, Robert Davis Hankins, James Clifford Hankins, Ralph Benjamin Hankins, Edward Benton Hankins and Harold Abram Hankins; one sister, Bessie Helen Hankins Potter.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Culp Hunter; two daughters, Joyce W. Potter of Richmond, VA and Janice Sherrie Potter-Baldwin and husband, Michael of Virginia Beach, VA; twin sisters, Pearline Murray of Baptist Valley, VA and Pauline Eskut of Cleveland, OH; two grandchildren, John David Long of Elizabeth City, NC and Melissa Lynn Elliott of Chesterfield, VA; two great grandchildren, Courtlynn Elizabeth Malone and Mason Creed Fallin of Chesterfield, VA; four step children, Mark, Mary Jane, Lisa and Eric Hunter; she was also loved and survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Friday, March 10, 2017 at Peery & Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM with the Reverend John Repass officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Pallbearers are Mike Murray, Jeffrey Murray, Keith Hankins, Scott Shrader, Robert Eskut, and Chris Hankins. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Hankins and Michael Baldwin.
