Bastian, Va. - Larry Stephen Simmons, 78, of Bastian, Virginia, died Thursday, September 28. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Sarver,Zerna Crouch, and Joy Sarver; and brothers Danny Simmons and David Simmons.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Dalton Simmons, of Bastian; sons, James Michael Simmons and wife Lisa, of Cross Roads, TX and Stephen Paul Simmons of Bastian; daughter Karen Elizabeth Simmons of Knoxville; sisters Charlotte Hypes and husband Warren of Riner VA; brother "Chip" Simmonsand wife Georgeann of Bluefield, WV; sister-in-law Issy Simmons of Bluefield, WV; brother-in-law Ronnie Sarver; and grandsons Maxwell Dalton Simmons, of Plano, TX, and James Stephen Simmons and Michael Lyle Simmons of Cross Roads.
Larry was a 1957 graduate of Bluefield High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific and The Orient. When his military service was compete he returned to Bluefield, where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, first as a mail train clerk and later as a clerk in the Bluefield post office facilities.
A joint memorial service for Larry and his eldest brother, David will be held at 12:00 noon, October 7 at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel. Craig Hammond will preside. The families will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. - noon.
At Larry's request, his body has been cremated.
