Last Tuesday the world suddenly lost a beautiful soul, my father Larry Calfee. He lived his life the way he treated others, with kindness, humility, and respect. Knowing him you always had a caring friend, knowing him well you had one for life. Larry never had a harsh word to say towards someone, present or not, even when warranted. It's never easy to say goodbye, especially since no one got the chance. It is however, somewhat easier knowing my father had unflappable faith, he saw hope and reason because of that faith, it is an example I hope I have the strength to emulate.
Larry was born July 3, 1956 in Bluefield the son of the late Lawrence Wilson Calfee and Anna Blanche Barbery Calfee. He was a graduate of Beaver High School and a graduate of Bluefield State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Biology. Larry was a former owner/operator of a lawn maintenance business and was currently working for ResCare as a client caregiver. He attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence Jackson Calfee of Bluefield; one daughter, Sarah Cowan and husband Will of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Stella Day Cowan and Daisey Cowan; one sister, Barbara Fields and husband Harry of Princeton; and extended family, Charles and Dawn Spoelstra and their sons of Atlanta, GA.
In keeping with Larry's wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Craig Hammond officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday.
