BISHOP, Va. — Joseph Alva Woodall, age 88 of the Grassy Spur community in Bishop, VA died Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at his home. Born February 19, 1928 at Newhall, WV, he was a son of the late William Redmon Woodall and Mary Davis Woodall.
He was a member of the Dix Creek Community Church. Mr. Woodall was US Army Veteran of World War, II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ann Jones Woodall; his son, Oscar William Woodall; six sisters and one brother. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Jane Woodall and Christina Lynn Mercer both of the home; daughter in law, Mary Woodall of Bishop, VA; grandsons, Oscar Woodall, II and fiancee, Randi, Alva Woodall and wife, Kara, Wayne Woodall and fiancee, Beth, Shayne Woodall and wife, Toshia, and Daniel Lee Sawyers; granddaughter, Cassandra Mercer; great grandchildren, Justin, Alicia, Kyle, Jackie Leigh Ann, Legend, Jasmine, Zach, Brandon, Brian, Matthew, and Jeremiah Woodall, Cody Asbury, Kaitlyn and Alexis Mayes, Cailyn Hodges, Raeleigh Justus-Sawyers, Sophia Mercer, Justin Lee Wright, Jr.; great great grandchildren, Hannah and Paslee Hutchinson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA with Pastor Wayne Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Woodall Cemetery at Grassy Spur in Bishop, VA where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell, VA and VA National Guard Honor Team from Gate City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are James Jones, Jr. and Ted Jones.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Friday, February 17, 2017.
