MADISON, FL - John Eldridge Bowling, lovingly known as "Pappy," 95, of Madison, FL, formerly of Kegley, died peacefully at home Friday, February 3, 2017, after a prolonged illness. Born March 12, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Wiley Bowling and Rachel Taylor Bowling.
Mr. Bowling was a veteran of the US Navy serving in World War II where he received the Purple Heart and the Navy/Marine Corps Medal. He was a retired coal miner, and was a member of Kegley Baptist Church and Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Madison, Florida.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, William Bowling and two sisters, Alta Wimmer and Ruth Cochran.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Eloise Honaker Bowling; two sons, C. G. Bowling and wife Christine of Madison, FL and M.D. Bowling of Ft. White, FL; one sister, Clara Pettie of Princeton; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great, great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Rick Setser officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Military honors will be conducted by Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard and U. S. Navy Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.bailey-kirk.com.
