AKRON, Ohio — Joe Jr. Cole, 85, of Akron, OH, formerly of Zenith, WV, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Essex of Salem Nursing Home in Salem, OH. Joe was born in Bishop, VA, on April 20, 1931, and was the son of the late William Mack and Minnie C. Cole.
Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran. His greatest passion in life was music. He played many different instruments. He enjoyed collecting guitars and antique glass and loved visiting his family in West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Cole of Akron, OH; one sister, Pansy M. Cannon of Baltimore, MD; and one brother, James Otis Cole of Lynchburg, VA.
Survivors include two daughters, Twyla McCullough and husband Carl of Rootstown, OH, and Christy Cole-Perry of Mt. Dora, FL; one grandson, Danny Cole of Mt. Dora, FL; thirteen nieces and nephews, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and his good friend for more than fifty years, Wanda King of Akron, OH, formerly of TN.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Willis Carr and Pete Dunford officiating. Burial will follow in Swope Cemetery, Lindside, WV.
Friends may call from 1:00 PM to time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
