Jean Maurine's Story

SPANISHBURG Jean Maurine Gooley Ferguson, 73, of Spanishburg, passed away at Franciscan Hospice House in Tacoma, Washington on Thursday, June 8, 2017, after a brief, but courageous fight with cancer.
Born March 27, 1944 in Chicago, IL, she was a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, and caring friend to many.
Jean was the daughter of the late Malachy and Elizabeth Gooley of Chicago, IL. She attended Saint Richards School and completed the nursing program through Mercer County Vocational and Technical Center. She worked as a pediatric nurse for several years before moving in the retail profession. She worked for JC Penney for nearly 20 years, retiring from there in 2006. After losing her husband in 2008, she made taking care of her grandchildren her full time job.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Donald Wayne Ferguson, two sisters, Maribeth Pozdal and Judy Harrigan, and one grandson, Davis Wayne Ferguson.
Left to cherish her legacy of caring and compassion are her children, sons Command Sergeant Major Donald Wayne Ferguson II & wife Ellen of Lewis-McChord, WA, (Brian, Donald, Hailey), Paul Anthony Ferguson of Spanishburg (Jay), her only daughter Nancy Elizabeth Watts & husband Sean of Statesville, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Jean Ferguson will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Father Sebastan as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton.
Friends may visit with family Tuesday from 5 until 7 PM at the funeral home.
