James Clifford Shockley, 83, of Rich Creek, VA, departed this life on Tuesday morning, August 1, 2017, at Wytheville, VA. Born October 3, 1933, in Princeton, WV, he was the son of the late Charles and Beulah Walters Shockley. James spent his childhood in Princeton, WV. He made his way to Baltimore, MD, and worked as a machinist at Anchor Hocking Glass. There, he met his wife of over 50 years, Rose. After retiring in 1973, James moved to Rich Creek, VA, to raise his family and spend the rest of his days. He was a loving husband, father, and coach. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by three sisters, Madaline, Odemma, and Ann; three brothers, Charles, Bob, and Roy; and one grandson, Ronnie.
Those left to cherish James' memory include his loving wife, Rose of Rich Creek, VA; two daughters, Wanda Schwinn and Gloria Shockley, both of MD; four sons, Richard Shockley of CA, Jimmy Shockley and wife Cindy of Richmond, VA, Wesley Shockley and wife Angela of Dublin, VA, and Daniel Shockley and Karen of Pearisburg, VA; two sisters, Twila Collins and Mary Emerson, both of Richmond, VA; nine grandchildren, Vanessa, Elizabeth, Alexis, Brandy, Abigail, Ben, Sarah, Alexa, and Grace; and 4 great grandchildren, Taylor, Ashley, Nicholas, and James.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Chris Stansell officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek, VA. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Online guestbook can be signed or condolences may be sent to the family at www.broyles-shrewsbury.com.
