James Edward's Story

James Edward "Jim" Widener Jr., age 65 of Keystone,(Brick Row) went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, WV. Born December 23, 1951 in the
little coal camp at Gilliam, WV, he was the son of the late James Edward Widener Sr., and Annie V. Sparks Widener.
Jim was a 1969 graduate of Northfork High School. He then attended Bluefield State College and graduated with a business degree. Then attended Beckley College of Mortuary Science in Beckley, WV
1980 where he was an honor graduate with a degree in Mortuary Science and was on the Deans list for 4 consecutive semesters.
He was a member of Burke Baptist Church in Keystone, WV where he served as assistant and adult Sunday School teacher as long as his health permitted. Jim was also a former coal miner for U S Steel #6,#4, #2 and #10 mines. other previous employment consisted of Budnick Furniture Co. in Keystone and Clark Hardware in Northfork, WV.
Jim loved to read the word of God everyday. He enjoyed talking to others about God's word and to fellowship with other believers regardless of denomination, race or creed. Jim loved his brothers and sisters in Christ. He was a loving and caring person and was dedicated to those he was called on to serve. Jim was a plain down to earth person who never forgot his humblel beginning. He would always
tell those he came in contact with, "I am what I am by the amazing grace of God."
He and his wife, Mary Ann purchased the funeral home in January 1986 from the late Robert "Bob" Fanning and his wife Betty. Jim worked several years for the Fanning Funeral Homes in Welch and Iaeger. He and his wife started Widener's Ambulance Service in August 1989. Jim was also a Veteran of the US Army National Guard where he served 6 years and attained the rank of Sgt. with the 150th Armored Calvary Unit, Brushfork, WV.
Jim was preceded in death by his only child whom he loved dearly, Jennifer Ann Widener Church. His parents, and both maternal and paternal grandparents. Also his aunt, Mary Lou "Sis" Stanley who held a special place in his heart.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Mary Ann Graham Widener. His only brother, Michael S Widener and Larry Timm. Work associate and cousin, Kenneth A Widener. Dedicated associate, Danny Brown and wife Nancy. Johnny Blevins and wife Emma. All his dedicated employees of Widener's Ambulance Service and Widener Funeral Home past and present. There are so many friends and loved ones that meant so much to Jim it would be impossible to list them all.
A Funeral and Home Going Service will be conducted Monday, October 16, 2017 at 1:PM at the Burke Baptist Church, Keystone, WV with Rev. Tim Redden and Brother Steven O'Donnell officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell, WV with Military Honors by
Wyoming County Honor Guard.
Friends may call Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 6 until 9:PM at Widener Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
