James Alfred's Story

James Alfred (Kit) Romano 70, of Shepherdstown, WV, died July 2, 2017 at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia.
Born April 12, 1947 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of Patrick A. Romano Sr. and Bettie Hawkins Romano. He was a graduate of Bluefield High School and attended West Virginia University where he received a Master's degree in Computer Science. Kit served as a professor in the Computer Science, Mathematics and Engineering Department for 45 years at Shepherd University. He believed that true learning "involved caring and open communication" with his students. He was an amazing computer programmer with a very unique and effective teaching style. Kit also enjoyed working outside (building his pond) and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Kit was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Romano and Philip Romano. He is survived by his wife Debbie, two daughters, Maria and Cody, and one son, Brandon.
He is survived by his brothers, Patrick A. Romano Jr. (Lynn) of Mt. Sterling, KY; Doug Romano (Renee) of Newville, PA; Mark Romano (Vivian) of Bland, VA; and Peter Romano (Debbi) of Bluefield, VA and sister, Gail Buzzo (Tom) of Rocky Gap, VA.
A family celebration of Kit's life will take place in the near future in the Bluefield area where he grew up. Plans for a service in Shepherdstown are incomplete at this time.
