SPANISHBURG — Jack D. Blankenship, 82, formerly of Spanishburg, died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Rockin' Chair Residential Care in Lerona. Born October 25, 1934 at Mullens, he was the son of the late Thomas Roy "T.R." Blankenship and Ada Walls Blankenship.
Mr. Blankenship was a lifelong member of Rich Creek Baptist Church in Spanishburg where he formerly served as a deacon, youth leader and Sunday school teacher. He was a self-employed upholsterer and refinisher for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marvis Goad Blankenship; one grandson, Jacob Havens; one brother, Paul Blankenship; and five sisters, Edith Blankenship, Pauline Crawford, Duvall Bailey, Margaret Runyon and Augusta Stinette.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Havens and husband Stacey of Princeton; three grandchildren, Leanne McKinney and husband Chad of Johnson City TN, Josh Havens and wife Kari of Bland, VA and Jordan Havens of Rocky Gap, VA; three great-grandchildren, Atlas McKinney and Dylan and Jacob Havens; several nieces and nephews; and his loving extended family at the Rockin' Chair.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ralph Calfee and Rev. Jamie Mattox officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Freddie Conner, James Archer, Tommy Blankenship, Ronnie Wellman, Daniel Dunn, Donald White, Russell Calfee and David White. Barry Wellman, Carl Cook and Raymond Robinson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rich Creek Baptist Church, P.O. Box 101, Spanishburg, WV 25922 or to the First Baptist Church "Moving Forward Together Fund", 1116 Mercer St., Princeton, WV 24740.
