TAZEWELL, Va. — Ima Jean Brewster Nelson, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend peacefully went to dance with the Angels on her 86th birthday, Sunday, January 29, 2017 at her home in Tazewell, VA.
Spunky, warm, kind, and loving, she was born in Avondale, WV on January 29, 1931 to Carl and Hazel Wyatt Brewster. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Junior Nelson; a brother, James Brewster; and a sister, Betty Lowe.
She worked at the Acme Supermarket Bakeshop in North Tazewell, VA. Her favorite "Job" was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. That was her career. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Barns Beavers VFW Post 7136 of Tazewell, VA, and an associate member of the United Mine Workers of America. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Chapel and loved every member as family. She was also a member of Calvary's Senior Citizen's and adopted leaders Herbert and Sally Hess as her own children. Thank you Sally and Herb Hess and Dan Conn for treating her like your own mother.
She leaves behind to cherish the memories she helped us to create: daughter, Patsy C. Nelson and Garland Hancock of Tazewell, VA; two sons, Glen Roger Nelson and wife, Kathy of Unionville, VA, and Donald C. Nelson and wife, Cheryl of Wardell, VA; five grandchildren and their families, Jay Ratcliffe and wife, Lisa of Roanoke, VA, Regina N. Richardson and husband, Kenny of Locust Grove, VA; Leigh Ann N. Combs and husband, Eric of Tazewell, VA, Shane Nelson and Mary Clatterbuck of Rhodesville, VA, and Clint Nelson of Nashville, TN; 13 great grandchildren, Josh Call, Ashleigh and Brenden Ratcliffe, Austin Dean, Zakary, Kristen, Kristian, and Kassie Richardson, Harper Grace Nelson, Luke Clatterbuck, Trey, Asher, and Annabella Combs. She also adopted and is survived by the entire Alford family. They made her their Mother, their Grandmother, their "Golden Girl" They were her family and she was theirs, especially her other daughter, Susan. She leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends, but we retain heart.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Chapel at Witten's Mill, VA where a Celebration of Her Life Service will be conducted at 7 PM with Pastor Chuck Trent officiating.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Donnie Nelson, Jay Ratcliffe, Brendon Ratcliffe, Mackie Hall, Shane Nelson, Kenny Richardson, Zach Richardson, and Clint Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Garland Hancock, Herb Hess, Dan Conn, Larry Lambert, Jonathan Lambert, Roger Nelson, and Kristian Richardson.
