Herold Mason's Story

Herold Mason "John" Flynn, age 75 of Tazewell, VA died peacefully at his home Sunday, August 13, 2017.
Born October 3, 1941 at Alexandria, VA, he was a son of the late Frederick Lawrence Flynn and Dorothy Leist Flynn. Mr. Flynn was an Elder of Tazewell Presbyterian Church. He was a US Air Force Veteran and a member of the Tazewell Lions Club. John received his Bachelor's degree from Concord College and his Master's in Education from the University of Virginia. He worked in secondary education, in public relations at Clinch Valley Medical Center at Richlands, VA, and retired as a probation and parole officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan Flouer Flynn; sons, LtCol John Patrick Flynn, USMC and Captain Bryan Douglas Flynn, US Army (Ret) and wife, Meagan Gibbons Flynn; grandchildren, Kylie Mae Flynn, Allie Grace Flynn, and Spencer Blaise Flynn; sister, Nelle Flynn Mason; brother in law, Jack Alford Flouer and wife, Peggy Dillon Flouer; nephew, Michael Bruce; niece, Michelle Luttrell; and his friend and caregiver, Kimberly Cleaver.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 1 PM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Tazewell Presbyterian Church in Tazewell, VA where a memorial service will be conducted at 1 PM with the Reverend Doctor David Gilbert and Reverend Robert E. Button officiating.

The family is honoring his wishes for cremation, and burial will be private.
