Henry S. Paul, 97, passed away, Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Bluefield WV. Born, January 3, 1920, in Elbert, WV, he was the son of the late Mike and Elizabeth Schaeffer Paul.
He was a resident of Filbert, WV. Since 1940 where he was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Big Creek High School; and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from U.S. Steel with 42 years of service, where he served as a Gen. Mine Forman. He was Mayor of Gary from 1991 to 2001, he was a member of the Gary Lions Club where he served as a district governor from 1989-1990. He was a past Secretary-Treasurer of the McDowell County Redevelopment Authority, a past board member of the Solid Waste Authority and former member of the Advisory Board of Practical Nursing at the McDowell County Vo-Tech Center. Henry was a member of 40 & 8, a member of the American Legion Post 38 and the V.F.W. and the Treasurer of the Filbert United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rubye Cyphers Paul, one infant brother, one sister, Elizabeth Sajdak, two brothers, Nick and Mike Paul, one grandson, Terry Paul.
Survivors include, two sons, Henry Joe Paul and wife Hazel of Fairmont, WV, Timothy Paul of Pittsburgh, PA, five grandchildren, Chris, Brian and Jamie Paul of Fairmont, WV, Alainah and Nicole Paul of Pittsburgh, PA, one great grandson, Landon Paul of Fairmont, WV, three great granddaughters, , Paviah and Bari Mardirossian of Las Vegas, NV, and Flavia Paul of Fairmont, WV.
Funeral Services will be conducted, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11 A.M. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch, WV, with Pastor Martin West officiating, burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1144 of Iaeger.
Friends may call Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch, WV. Tim Paul, Steve Mardirossian, Chris Paul, Brian Paul, Buford Brown, and Charlie Honaker will serve as pallbearers; Honorary Pallbearer will be George Vaselareos.
