Henry Arthur's Story
PRINCETON Henry Arthur "Larry" Lipscomb, Jr, 70, of Princeton, passed away, Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
Larry was born December 7, 1946 in Eckman, WV (McDowell County). He was a son of the late Henry Arthur Lipscomb, Sr. and the late Ruth Ernestine Scales Lipscomb.
Larry was an avid sports fan. He loved to watch and attend basketball and football games. He was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan. He also loved watching political shows, old movies (especially westerns), barbecuing, and spending time with his family. Larry grew up in the Baptist faith in Kimball, WV; He attended the Kimball Elementary and High School; He received his BA in Social Studies and English from Bluefield State College and his Master's Degree from Marshall University. He taught history, social studies, and government in the McDowell County Schools for 32 years. He coached several years at Berwind Junior High and Big Creek High School respectively. During his coaching career at Big Creek High School, he led two teams to the sectional and regional championships. The 1996 Boys' team was the first to reach State Tournament level for the school since 1950. He was a member of the McDowell County Executive Committee and the Political Action Committee. He was a member of the WVEA where he served as chairman to the elections committee several times. He also served in the National Guard Army reserves.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Delores (Lipscomb) Glover and a brother, Richard Douglas Lipscomb.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Sarah (Woody) Lipscomb; a daughter, Angela Montville and husband, William of Hillard, OH; a son, Henry Alvin Lipscomb III and wife, Melissa of Princeton, WV; three granddaughters, Tiana Le' Reed of Hillard, OH, Teal Danielle Reed of Hillard, OH, and Sophia Claire Lipscomb of Princeton, WV; a grandson, Henry Ace Lipscomb of Princeton, WV; a sister, Drema Lipscomb Burnett and husband, Brian of Rochester, NY; a brother, Michael Allen Lipscomb of Tampa, FL; a special cousin, Beverly Finney of Welch, WV; several extended family members and a host of lifelong friends.
A Celebration of Larry's life with the sharing of memories by family and friends will be held from 2:00PM until 3:00PM Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Roselawn Funeral Home, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton. Friends may gather with the family from 1:30PM until time of the Celebration and sharing of memories.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Larry's honor to the American Heart Association.
