FLAT TOP — Gladys Alvis McComas, 93, of Flat Top, WV died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Serenity House in Lerona, WV. Born October 4, 1923 in Athens, WV she was the daughter of the late John Kenna Alvis and Cora Martin Alvis.
Gladys was a graduate of Athens High School, received her B.S. Degree at Concord University, and Master's Degree at West Virginia University. She was a retired educator last serving as Principal of Spanishburg Elementary School with the Mercer County School System with forty six years service. She was a member of the White's Chapel Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. McComas; three brothers, Roy Alvis, Eugene Alvis, and Clarence Alvis; and one sister, Helen Hodges.
Survivors include one son, Chris McComas of Flat Top, WV; one sister, Maxine Moye of Spanishburg; and one sister-in-law, Frances Alvis of Athens.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 24, 2017 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Jack Barber officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Leach, Jim Jones, Richard Godfrey, Russell Alvis, Tim Furches, and Ernesto Fonseca. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the service hour on Friday.
