Graham, N.C. — Fred Spivey, 89, of Graham, died on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington.
A native of Coalwood, West Virginia, he was the husband of the late Betty Marie Hefner Spivey and the son of Clint L. Spivey and Erma Sturgill Spivey, both deceased. He was a retired electrical engineer with Western Electric/AT&T and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Spivey was active in high school basketball officiating for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Jean Spivey of Apex, NC; son, David Spivey of Franklin, NC; sister, Dorothy Hefner of Newport News, VA; and sister in law, Minnie Spivey of Tazewell, VA.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Monnie Barnett, Ruth Price, Pearl Love, and Doris Ann Baldwin; and two brothers, Mervin Spivey and Melvin Spivey.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington with Rev. Reid Dickens officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:45 until 1:45 PM, immediately prior to the service at the funeral home.
