BLUEFIELD — Ernest Holland Doyle, Jr., 89, of Bluefield, WV, died Friday, February 3, 2017 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born December 12, 1927 in Bluefield, WV, he was the eldest son of the late Ernest Holland Doyle, Sr., and Elsie Ruble Doyle. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a 67-year member of the Bluefield, Mercer Lodge #85 and a member and past patron of Order of Eastern Star, Bluefield Chapter #66. He worked for National Electric Coil, retiring as a foreman, and then for Joy Service. He was a charter member of the Maple View Church of Christ, where he also served as a trustee and was a past elder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Nellie Fay Hawks Doyle; a daughter, Marlene Gibson; son-in-law, Don Raymond; sisters, Mabel Doyle, Elsie Davis and Edith Blackburn; and brothers, Billy Doyle and David Doyle.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Brenda Raymond of Christiansburg, VA, and Linda Reed and husband Timothy of Princeton, WV; sister, Jean Booth of Bluefield, WV; son-in-law, Rick Gibson; four grandchildren, Delnora Reed Acuff and husband Howie, Alan Reed and wife Cassie, Christina Rehg, and Rachel Merrix and husband J.D.; eight great-grandchildren, Adriana ("Andi"), Lyndsey, Zarecka, Brylan, Lacie, Easton, Caelan, and Reed; brother-in-law, Ernest Hawks; sister-in-law, Irene Harman and husband Darrow; sisters-in-law, Burnell Rourke, Shirley Hawks, and Josephine Hawks; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Monday evening, February 6, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a Memorial Service at 7:45p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Tony Reed and Caleb Penwell officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV, where Alan Reed, J.D. Merrix, Daniel Lilly, Vernon Carr, Billy Hawks and Charles Goins will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that memorial contributions be made to Mercer County Bible in the Schools, P.O. Box 543, Bluefield, WV 24701, the Church of Christ at Maple View, 194 Robins Rest Road, Bluefield, WV 24701 or Christian Acres, 1351 Evangelism Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
