Ellen Thompson French, age 83, of Bland County went to her heavenly home with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2017.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert McKinley French; a son, Alfred McKinley French; her parents, James and Ida Thompson; a brother, Elmer Thompson; and a sister, Ossie Lang.
Ellen is survived by a daughter-in-law, Debra Lambert French; granddaughter, Rachael French Selfe; grandson, Derek Mitchell French; great-granddaughter, Taylor Mae Selfe, all of Bland; three sisters, Leona Mallory and Ollie Thompson of Bland and Barbara Loving of Beckley, WV; sisters-in-law, Edna Conley and Linda French of Bland; brother-in-law, Wallace French of Bland; special friend, Debbie DeHart; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ellen was born in Bland County where she spent her entire life until one year ago when she became a resident of Carrington Place in Wytheville. She was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Hollybrook. Ellen was employed at the Tultex factory in Bastian until retirement where she was known for always working hard and never wanting to take a break.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Highland Funeral Chapel in Bland. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until service time at the Funeral Chapel. Interment will be held following the service at the Old Bethel Cemetery.
