Edith's Story

PRINCETON, WV - Edith Neoma Reed, 77, of Princeton, WV, passed from this earthly life on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born on June 22, 1939, in Pearisburg, VA, to the late William Rayner Troutt and Ruby Ella Fisher Troutt and had been a resident of Princeton, WV, for the past 50 years.
Neoma, as she was known, was a graduate of Pearisburg High School in Pearisburg, VA, and also attended McClain's Business College in Bluefield, WV. She subsequently worked for several years at the Celanese Corporation in Narrows, VA, Coppinger's Machinery in Bluefield, WV, and later at Sears, Inc. at Mercer Mall in Bluefield, WV, where she retired after 25 years of faithful service.
Neoma had a truly angelic and giving nature. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family, whom she loved and cherished immensely. She loved to travel, and was blessed to see all 50 states, including time at several scenic locations, with her loving grandchildren.
Neoma was one of the charter members of the Maple View Church of Christ in Bluefield, WV, where her husband served as Senior Minister for 42 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters: Mary Whitaker (Bill), Zuelema Scott (Buddy), Ellen Troutt and Bernie Troutt (Carrie) of Pearisburg, VA, William "Billy" Troutt (Margaret), Leonard "Benny" Troutt (Sarah), and Jesse Troutt (Ginny) of Flint, MI, and a baby girl, Lori Ellen Reed. Neoma was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those left to cherish Neoma's wonderful memory are her husband of 54 years, Tony L. Reed; her children, Robert Reed of Princeton, WV, Rodney Reed (Mary Ann) of Palm Springs, CA, Darren Reed of Princeton, WV, and Robin Fife (Chris) of Greenville, VA. Her five loving grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan, and Damian Fife of Greenville, VA, and Iris and Lola Reed of Palm Springs, CA - all of whom were her pride and joy.
Also left to cherish her memory are several nieces and nephews, including: Mike Scott (Barbara) of Dallas, NC, Rick Scott of Asheville, NC, Judy Troutt Zimmer Kingsley (David) of Kalamazoo, MI, Don Troutt (Jill) of Grand Blanc, MI, Steven Troutt of Owasso, MI, Ronnie Troutt of Pearisburg, VA, Gary Troutt of Roanoke, VA, Jessie Troutt Perdue (Bobby) of Narrows, VA, and Jeff Troutt of Dublin, VA. Surviving brothers and sisters-in-law include: Nedra Atwood (Clayton) and Susan Reed of Rich Creek, VA and Stewart Reed (Shelley) of Salisbury, NC.
Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA, with Minister Frank Watkins and Bud Gentry officiating. Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet at the cemetery; there will be no procession.
