Dr. David's Story
Dr. David A. Kovach passed away on June 28, 2017 surrounded by family at his home. Born September 2, 1944, he was the son of the late Gaza and Margaret Booher Kovach.
Dr. Kovach graduated from Virginia Military Institute (VMI), and received his DDS degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He then served two years in the United States Air Force where he received the Air Force Commendation Medal. He began the practice of dentistry in Bluefield, VA in 1971 and continued in that practice until June 2015. During his career, he was inducted as a fellow of the Virginia State Dental Society.
In addition to being an active member of First United Methodist Church, he previously served terms on the Bluefield Virginia Town Council, the Bluefield Virginia Planning Commission, the Tazewell County School Board, and the board of the Virginia State Golf Association.
He is survived by his wife, Charlynne; brother, W. Michael Kovach of Fosters, AL; son Dr. David A. Kovach, II and wife Elizabeth of Cornelius, NC; daughters, Cheryl Gamble and husband Travis of Martinez, GA, and Ann Marie Whaley and husband Tim of Charlotte, NC; and 6 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at First United Methodist Church, Bluefield, Virginia on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 12:00 with Dr. Don Scott and Dr. Jay Ferguson officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 until the service hour on Saturday. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to his favorite charity, the Bluefield Union Mission, or First United Methodist Church, Bluefield, Virginia.
