Donald "Don"'s Story
BASTIAN, Va. — Donald "Don" Wiley Havens, Sr., age 88, of Bastian, VA passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was born April 14, 1928 in Bastian, the son of the late Wiley Brown Havens and Macie Perry Havens and was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Pauley Havens and brother, Jewel P. Havens.
Don was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII and retired from the Keebler Company after 33 years of service. He worked with his good friend, J. Fred Hall, Jr., for many years.
Don was well known as Gold Dollar Man; he loved to give the coins to people just to see the grin on their faces. He was an active member of Bastian Union Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra H. Neel of Bastian; son, Don and Cindy Havens, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, Joseph Havens, Cody Havens and Jennifer Fariss; five great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother, John Keith and Aileen Havens of Bastian; sister-in-law, Shirley Pauley; several nieces and nephews; among his many special friends, Milly Cepelnix and Jay Fred Hall, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Bastian Union Church with Mr. Paul Looney officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those who prefer may make memorial donations to the Bastian Union Church Building Fund.
