MATOAKA — Donald Clayton Deskins formerly of English, WV, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home in Matoaka, WV. Donald was born July 13, 1934, in Atwell, WV, where he was raised. He worked in the coal mining industry for many years.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, John Deskins; his mother, Susie Addair-Deskins; his second mother, Mae Dawson-Deskins; four brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Jones-Deskins; two sons, Garnet Deskins and wife Jacqueline of Charleston, WV, and Donald Deskins, Jr. of Atwell, WV; four daughters, Gertie Beavers and husband Donald of North Tazewell, VA, Tammy Wagoner of Raysal, WV, Pearl Tabor of North Tazewell, VA, and Michelle Poore and husband Bobby of Matoaka, WV, with whom he made his home. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, five brothers, and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12 PM with visitation from 10 am -12p.m. Reverend Roger Hale Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riffe Cemetery on Atwell Mountain near Atwell, WV. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
