Dionigi's Story

Dionigi (Dan) Rasi -89 years of age - Passed away peacefully at his home April 5, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Born September 25, 1927 in Montagnareale, (Sicily) Italy to the late Antonio and Francesca Buzzanca Rasi. Dan married his beloved wife Nancy Majestro on April 30, 1950 - almost 67 years. 
Dan and Nancy had 5 children and over the years their family grew in love and size.
Dan had a zest for life that never diminished even during his long illness.  He lived life to the fullest. He loved and cared deeply for his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. An avid hunter and fisherman he enjoyed both until his death - especially with his son Anthony. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family members, and relatives. Also visiting relatives in Italy, Australia, and enjoyed winters in Florida for many years with relatives. He enjoyed all his relatives and their company. He loved playing cards especially 3 card poker, blackjack and pinochle. He was proud of his Italian heritage and loved eating with family and friends - especially spaghetti, meatballs and Italian hard bread. He was a member of Sons of Italy in Bluefield. An avid sports fan - especially West Virginia University - St Louis Cardinals.
 Dan was an operator of German plow long wall machine and worked for Eastern Assoc. Coal Corp., Keystone 1, Mine #11.
 He resided in Kimball until moving to Bluefield in 2004. He had a deep love for God and his church. He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Kimball and became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church after moving to Bluefield. 
 Dan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Frank and wife Christine Rasi, sisters Mary and husband Dominic Oliver and Lena and husband Roosevelt Ramella.
 In addition to his wife he is survived by and was the beloved father of Dr. Anthony (Nancy) Rasi of Bluefield, W.Va, Frances (James) Butch of Charleston, W.Va., Dina Munsey, of Rocky Gap, Va, Carmella (Ken) Miller of Louisville, Ky, and  Mary (Chuck) Otte, of Beckley, W.Va.  Beloved grandfather  of Elizabeth (Mickey) Carr, Danny (Amy) Rasi, Nancy Catena (Chris) Webb, Dina Marie (Jared) Wyrick, Maria (Darren) Franck, Nikki (David)  Frampton, Natalie (John) Swartz, Joseph (Joan) Miller, Daniel (finance Giovanna) Miller, Adrienne (Greg) Barnett, Charles Joseph (Christine) Otte, Lindsay (Nathan) Davenport. Beloved great grandfather of Caden, Ty, Victoria, Max, Trista, Catena, Alyssa, Vincent, Alexander, Dominic, Isaac, Samuel, Gabrellia, Jeffrey, Jace, Vivienne, Charles Joseph IV, Frank, Adeline, Jayden, and Isaiah And one on the way. Dear brother of Thelma Rasi. Beloved brother-in-law of Joe and Josephine Chiari,
Natalie Giardina, Dr Tony and Prudence Majestro, Carmella and Francis Cuomo , Margaret and Philip Cuomo, and many beloved nieces and nephews. 
Special friends Annette and Claude Morgan, Gianato Family and many in Bluefield and Kimball.  
 Friends may call at Mercer Funeral Home on Thursday, April 6, 2017   
from 6-8 PM. Where there will be a Rosary and Wake Service at 7:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 7, 2017 at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield with the Rev. Sebastian Devasya officiating.  
A rite of committal will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, W.Va.
Pallbearers will be Danny Rasi, Joey Miller, Daniel Rasi Miller, 
Johnny Rasi, Mickey Carr, Darren Franck . Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Ramella, David Ramella, Reno Ramella, Jerry Rasi, and Jimmy Rasi.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Food Pantry, P.O. Box 608, Bluefield, WV 24701. The family would like to thank. Dr. Vijay Phade, all the staff at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Gentiva Home Health,  Amedisys Hospice and caregivers Julie Brown, Kristy Mullins, and Sarah Pruitt for all their care and compassion during his illness.  And Rev Sebastian Devasya, Deacon Donald Hammond, and many dear neighbors, relatives, and friends - our prayer warriors - who carried us on dark days. 
Dan was loved by all who knew him and will be truly missed.
