BLUEFIELD — Dewey Monroe Baskin, Jr. was born in Bluefield, WV on December 4, 1962, to Dewey Baskin, Sr and the late Nellie Teresa Baskin. He departed from this life on Monday, April 4, 2017 at his home.
Dewey graduated from Bluefield High School in 1981. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served 10 years in the US Army, and while he was in the Army he became a Mason. He received a honorable discharge from the Army in 1991. He has been a dedicated employee of the First Community Bank of Bluefield for over twenty years.
Dewey accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching his favorite team the LA Lakers play basketball.
Dewey was preceded in death by his mother, his sister, Myra Baskin Neal and a brother, Carlton Eugene Summers.
Dewey will forever be remembered and loved by his father, Dewey Baskin, Sr. (Lisa Todd), his daughter, Nicole Amie Baskin, Bluefield, WV, his son, Justin Baskin, Bluefield, WV, his brother, Ricky Marshall, (Vicky), West Jordan, Utah, a devoted friend and neighbor, Laron (Putt) Safford and a host of friends and co-workers.
The Homegoing services will be Monday, April 10, 2017 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 205 Logan Street, Bluefield, WV at 12:00 noon. The viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Rev. Charles H. Collins, Sr. will officiate. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
The Baskin family is in the care of A.P. McConnell Funeral Home.
