Dennis Bailey Simmons passed away on May 13, 2017, at the age of 82, at the Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia.
Dennis was born on Red Root Ridge on December 6, 1934, to the late Roy and Wanda Short Simmons.
He was a loving Husband, devoted Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Uncle. He was a man who loved and took pride in his family; he made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was generous beyond measure, kind and caring beyond words; a man among men and an upstanding, respected member of his community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, George T. (GT) Simmons and wife Bernice, and Bernard R. Simmons and wife Loretta; sister, Norma Simmons Lee, nephews, Matthew Jackson and Patrick Jackson and his niece, Pamela Lee.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Billie Sue Dye Simmons, daughter Deanis L. Simmons of Bristol, Virginia, son, Jeffrey A. Simmons and wife, Teri, of Richlands, Virginia, daughter, Jennifer Simmons Brown and husband, Glayde, of Richlands, Virginia; grandsons, Dennis Jeffrey Charles Simmons and wife, Katie, of Virginia Beach, Evan Blake Simmons and Kirstin Hatfield of San Diego, California, George Glayde (Trey) Brown III, Dylan Simmons Brown, of Richlands, Virginia, three great granddaughters, Finnie Pearl Simmons, Penelope Rose Simmons, and Izabella Mae Simmons of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill R. Simmons and wife Linda, Jack L. Simmons and wife Phyllis of Richlands, Virginia, and his sisters, Sandra Simmons Spruell and Renee Simmons of Roanoke, Virginia, as well as many many beloved nieces and nephews, relatives, and longtime friends.

Memorial services for Dennis B. Simmons will be conducted Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 12pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Buddy Herald officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, May 15, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. Honorary Pallbearers incude a special cousin, Charlie Simmons, and a group known collectively as the "Hardees Boys" consisting of Jim Hammond, Doug Laforce, Gene Hearl, Ernie Horton, JC Hogston, Dairel Bobbitte, Roger Ferrell, and Albert Goins.
