LASHMEET — Delbert Smith, 68, of Lashmeet went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. He was born at home on April 15, 1947 to Hollie Smith and Marie Bell Dawson Smith in Rockridge, WV.
Delbert served his country as a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He served his Lord as Chairman of the church board of the Peaceful Valley Church on Cornbread Ridge Road, Princeton. He was Vice President of Sunrise Ministries located on Bent Mountain in Lerona and was Vice President of Sunrise Trucking from 2005 until 2007 where he was logistics coordinator and driver delivering loads of donated goods and materials to missionaries in America and the world.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amerio Smith; two sisters, Marie Waldron and Holly Estel; and four brothers, Cecil Bazil Smith, Orville Dean Smith, Donald Maze Smith, and Oliver Lee Smith (who served with him on the Sunrise Chapel Church Board of Elders).
He leaves behind his daughter, Alysha D. Smith of the home; three sons, Michael Smith and wife Mary, Joe Smith and wife Wendy, and Delbert Martin Smith of Virginia; three sisters, Betty Joe Moore of Ohio, Martha Arrington of Indiana, and Eva Janette Davis of South Carolina; and one brother, Dexter Ray Smith of Ohio.
We who heard his prayers will never forget him. Godspeed on your journey home brother.
In keeping with Delbert's wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at the Peaceful Valley Church on Cornbread Ridge Road, Princeton on Saturday, January 7, 2017 with Pastor Delmar W. Stilwell, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service hour at 11:00 AM.
