Deborah Lynn's Story

Text size

Bluefield, WV- Deborah Lynn (Deb) Coppinger Sarver of Liberty Street, Bluefield, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, August 27, 2017, after a courageous three year battle with ovarian cancer.  Born April 30, 1955 in Bluefield, WV, she was the daughter of the late Bud and Carolyn Coppinger.  Deb graduated from Bluefield High School in 1973 and attended Virginia Tech. On Valentine's Day 1976, she married the one true love of her life, Pete Sarver, with whom she made her home and raised two wonderful sons. Deb was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she loved serving as a circle leader. She was also active in the Christian Women's Club organization of Bluefield along with her mother. The aim of her participation and leadership in civic organizations in Bluefield was to serve the community that she loved. She served as a member of the Bluefield City Board, the Arts and Science Center of Bluefield, and Director of the Holiday of Lights. At Bluefield High School, she was a Volunteer for the Centennial Committee and the Mentor Program, Huddle Group Coach for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and had the distinct honor of coaching the BHS Girls Tennis Team to win its only Women's State Championship. She was named West Virginia Tennis Coach of the Year the following year. At the time of her death, she was serving as President of Women of the Church at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Deb's positive attitude amid many challenges was the result of her passionate love for her Lord. She found great delight in studying God's Word, listening to contemporary Christian music, and enjoying God's gift of nature including flowers and birds. She also found great joy in serving her family, friends, and others. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter and her mother-in-law Janet Sarver.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Pete Sarver; sons Brandon Sarver and his wife Aimee of Simpsonville, SC and Brent Sarver of Sydney, Australia; grandsons Will and Reid Sarver of Simpsonville, SC; sister Cindy Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC; brother Wally Coppinger of Charlotte, NC; father-in-law Jack Sarver, sister-in-law Karen and her husband Benny Disibbio and their families.
