David Earl Martin, Sr., 71, of Island Creek, WV died Friday, June 23, 2017 at his residence. Born October 13, 1945 in Roanoke, VA he was the son of the late Robert E. Martin, Sr. and Ruth Elaine Charlton Martin.
David was owner-operator of Martin's Backhoe Service. He had many fond memories of friends he made and experiences he had while serving seventeen years in the West Virginia National Guard. He was a member of the Peaceful Valley Church at Gardner. David loved his family and his former employees and enjoyed a good practical joke.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert E. Martin, Jr. and Richard E. Martin; and one sister, Patricia E. Hall.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Susan Eads Martin of Island Creek; one son, David E. Martin, Jr. and wife Kathey of Princeton; one daughter, Susan E. Martin Williams and husband Richard of Princeton; five grandchildren, Rosa Grace Williams, Nicholas Bryant Martin, David E. Martin, III, Curtis L. Martin and wife Amanda, and Olivia J. Martin; five siblings, Joseph E. Martin and wife Betty Lou of Jefferson, GA, Nancy E. Lunsford and husband Larry of Peterstown, WV, Joan Ort of Niles, MI, Joe Martin and wife Mary of Tanner, WV, and Cathy Musselman and husband Kenny of Claytor Lake, VA; and two sisters-in-law, Mabel Martin of Athens, WV and Tracy Martin of Decatur, GA.
In keeping with David's wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 AM, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Peaceful Valley Church at Gardner with Pastor Delmar Stilwell, Jr. officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday.
