PRINCETON Danny Mathena 79, of Thornton Avenue, Princeton died Friday, June 2, 2017 at his home.
Born January 19, 1938 in Princeton, he was the son of the late George Washington Mathena & Debbie Zornes Mathena.
Danny was educated in Princeton and graduated from the Carolina Barbers School. Early in Danny's professional career, he was a barber in Maryland having the opportunity to cut hair for Bobby Kennedy & George Wallace and other dignitaries in the Washington DC area. He returned to Princeton in the early 70's, working with Bob Tolley and later opening Man's World Barber Shop in Princeton. In the late 80's Keith Bailey became a partner in the business and later the owner. Danny had various businesses in the Princeton community and was a land developer. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton. Danny was active in the Princeton area, having served on Princeton City Council and at one time held the position of Vice-Mayor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ten siblings: George, Fred, Jack, Willie, Garfield & Robert Mathena, Lavana Hutchinson, Edith Fink, Elizabeth Easter, Laura Harman.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Covey Mathena; One daughter, Merri Beth Mathena Juba;
Three grandchildren, Ryan Daniel Juba, Russell Juba Jr. & Brittani Juba Thompson & husband Gary;
Three great-grandchildren; Riley, Amiya & Saylor. One sister, Lovie Mae Mourning.
Services will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, June 8, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory with Dr. David Dockery officiating.
Friends may visit with family Thursday from 4:00 PM until the service hour.
