ITMANN - Curtis E. Cordell, Sr., 87, of Itmann died Monday, January 16, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born February 15, 1929 at Swords Creek, VA he was the son of the late Roy Cordell and Alta Newberry Cordell.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Switzerland and Germany. He was a member of the Cassell Memorial Methodist Church in Itmann and retired from Consolidation Coal in Itmann. In his younger days, he enjoyed motorcycles and squirrel hunting.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Junior Cordell, Donald Cordell and Roger Cordell.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ramona Stanley Cordell; one son, Eddie Cordell and companion Irene Burleson of Itmann; one daughter, Betty Sue Lusk and husband Stephen D. Lusk of Princeton; one sister, Dorothy Hammond of Princeton; special friends and neighbors, Everette and Gertrude Farmer of Itmann. The family wishes to thank Bobby and Joyce Hylton of Bud Mountain for their care and compassion during his illness.
Graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Pastor Jason Stewart officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at Trinity Garden at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
