CORNELIUS LABAN, 83, of Bastian, VA, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born April 25, 1934 at Rotterdam, Holland, a city in the Netherlands, a son of the late Marinus Laban and Cornelia Korevaar. He was a college professor and taught in the field of Biology at Richard Bland College. He was an ordained speaker and attended Bastian Union Church. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed spelunking and repelling, canoeing and kayaking.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Piet Odijk and Victor Rootan and a sister-in-law, Schon Laban.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Sue Hall Laban; his sons & daughter-in-law, Chris & Jessica Laban and Doug Laban; his daughter & son-in-law, Petra Laban & Robert Seubert; his special grandchildren, Robbie & Katarina; his siblings, Willamena Rootan, Piet & Cox Laban and Rhinus Laban; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. at Bastian Union Church with Pastor Paul Looney officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until service time, 4:00 P.M. Burial will take place privately on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Suiter Cemetery, Bastian.
