Clarence Gerald's Story
Clarence Gerald "Red" McBride Sr., 94, of Welch, WV passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Westwood Center in Bluefield, VA after a short illness. Born January 17, 1923 in Thorpe, WV he was the son of the late Samuel McBride and Cecelia Barnett McBride.
Red was a member of the First Church of God in North Welch, WV. He was a retired coal miner from US Steel after 44 years of service, a United States Veteran of World War II Rank SFC and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts among other Medals. He was a former President of the American Legion of Welch, WV and a member of the VFW Post 1144 Iaeger, WV where he was a proud Flag Bearer.
Red was the owner and operator of McBride Farms, another of his passions that he took great pride in.
Other than his parents, Red was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Walsie "Polly" Miller McBride. One son-in-law Darrell Lane and several brothers.
He is survived by his children, Betty Lane of Myrtle Beach, SC, Gerald McBride Jr. and wife Nancy of Welch, WV, Lois McBride of Kansas City, Kansas and Harold McBride Sr. and wife Vicki of Welch, WV. Five grandchildren: Pamela Lane of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jerry McBride of Welch, WV, Glen McBride of Welch, WV, Harold Wayne McBride Jr. and wife Amanda of Bluefield, VA and Jill Flanigan of Kansas City, Kansas. Eight great-grandchildren and a host of other extended family and friends.
Services will be conducted Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 11: AM at the First Church of God North Welch, WV with Rev. Scott Long officiating. Military Graveside Service VFW Post 1144 Iaeger, WV will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV.
Friends may call Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the church from 6 until 9: PM.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearer Jim Widener.
