BLAND, Va.— Christian Noel Akers, 25, of Bland, VA left this world on Thursday, January 5th, 2017. An adventurous spirit, with a bright mind, Noel always set high goals for herself. She is now free to fly.
Noel was beautiful inside and out, always wanting to help others. She determined long ago that, while she was battling chronic illness, and not physically able to do a lot of things, she wanted to make a difference in the world; she did not want to give up. She was a fighter, a warrior, and she wanted no pity.
Noel was shy and quiet until she got to know you well, but once she did, it was on! You then became privy to her quick wit and sarcastic humor. This was the prize of knowing her well--a prize well worth waiting for.
Noel loved to cook. Cooking gave her a creative outlet when so much else had been taken away. She loved food--but she cooked to engage her mind; she cooked for others enjoyment; she cooked to bring people together. Family and friends were everything to Noel. She was always reaching out to keep people connected. Always an old soul, Noel just seemed to understand what we often forget in our busy lives--that we are here to love each other, spend time with each other, and support one another. She made that happen. And even in her passing, she is still making that happen.
Noel was born December 13th 1991 in Bluefield WV, she was preceded in death by her father, Ricky Akers, paternal grandparents, Raymond and Betty Akers and maternal grandmother, Jennifer Warden.
She was a 2010 graduate of Rocky Gap High School where she was a 4-H Allstar, a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Art Club and was a Rocky Gap High School Cheerleader. She graduated from WCC where she earned an Associate Degree.
Noel is survived by her mother and step-father, Donna and Tommy Dunn; sister, Miah Akers all of the home; step-sister, Kelly and Ben Stimart of Salem, VA; step- brother, Jamie and Ashleigh Dunn and their children, Parker, Jordyn and Brayden of Blacksburg, VA; maternal grandparents, Frankie and Alma Warden of Pulaski, VA; aunts, Debbie and Mike Gossett of Randalman, NC and their children, Bryan Gossett and Caleb Gossett, Holly Warden of Pulaski, VA and her children, Matthew Morris and Jeffery Hoback; uncles, Rusty Warden of Greensboro, NC, Teddy Akers of Bluefield, WV and his children, Timmothy Akers and Alex Akers.
