Bonivere "Bonnie"'s Story
Bluefield, WV- On Saturday, June 3, 2017, Bonivere "Bonnie" Reark Shott, 94, of Bluefield, Virginia peacefully left this world; John, her loving husband of 70 years was at her side. Born on May 20, 1923 in East Liverpool, Ohio, she was the daughter of John and Nell Reark. Bonnie was a lifelong Christian by faith and firmly believed in salvation and eternal life. While her absence is very painful for us, our family was blessed by her long life and is very thankful that she is now free from all suffering and is experiencing the joy, glory and reunion promised in God's word.?
After graduating from high school, Bonnie attended Seton Hill Academy in Pennsylvania. Following her wedding to John, she worked at West Virginia University while he completed his college degree. During that time, she submitted the winning entry in the contest to name the WVU Student Union - the "Mountainlair". Although most of her many talents and boundless energy were committed to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her cherished family, she was able to make time to pursue her love of music and the theater, becoming one of the founders of the Summit Players and performing in a number of its plays. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, served on the auxiliary of the Bluefield Union Mission, and provided volunteer services for many other community organizations and functions.?
In addition to her parents, Bonnie was predeceased by her brother, John Kayle Reark, sister-in-law, Katherine "Katie" Reark, grandson, Jeffrey Edward Shott, nephew, Robert Bradford Shott, niece, Linda Sue Marinko, and step-father, Raymond Vance Bell.?
She is survived by her husband, John Cary Shott, her two sons, John Headley Shott and his wife, Katherine, and Michael Reark Shott and his wife, Sandra, daughter-in-law, Karen Atkins Shott, five cherished grandchildren, James Christopher Shott, Andrew Michael Shott, Jason Cary Shott, Adam Cary Shott, and Martha Jane Shott, seven great grandchildren, Ethan Andrew Shott, Mason John Robert Shott, James Coolidge Shott, John Tyler Shott, Evelyn Bonivere Shott, Poppy Belle Shott, and Cary Woods Selkirk, and numerous nieces and nephews.?
Bonnie deeply loved her family and many friends and cherished those special occasions when she could gather as many of us together as possible... the more the better. Her passion for living, constant cheerfulness, sharp wit, kind spirit, and ever enduring love will be greatly missed until that time when we will be with her again.?
A service celebrating her life will be conducted on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Craig Hammond officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the beginning of the service. A private burial will follow later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Bluefield Union Mission or the Alliance for the Arts, LLC.?
