ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Betty Bell Eley, 89, of Alexandria, VA and formerly of Bluefield, WV, died Thursday January 19, 2017 in Fairfax, VA. Born July 1, 1927 in Johnson City, TN, she was a daughter of the late Walker Hamner Bell and Emily Elizabeth Jones Bell.
Mrs. Eley was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield, VA and she was a much loved mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Stuart Eley, Jr.; sister, Lucy Caroline Bell; and step-father, Thomas Mitchell.
Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia Eley Stalnaker and husband Glenver of Alexandria, VA and Sharon Eley Fogarty and husband Jim of Lake Ridge, VA; sisters, Helen Bell of Bluefield, WV, Emily Ascue of Bluefield, VA, and Phyllis Ferrell of Bluefield, WV; one grandson, Tom Fogarty; nephews, Dr. Joey Ascue and Alvin Ascue; niece, Kim Shaw; great niece and nephews, Christopher Ascue, Nicholas Shaw, Logan Ascue, and Kimberly Ascue.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley.
