PRINCETON — Arthur Chandler Gum, Jr., 51, of Marie Lane, Princeton died Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Veterans Regional Medical Center in Beckley.
Born March 4, 1964 at Weston, he was the son of Wanda Lou Peake Gum of Athens and the late Arthur C. Gum, Sr.
Arthur was a graduate of Athens High School and had served with the U.S. Army for four years.
Arthur retired from Concord University in Athens, having worked in the Maintenance Department. He had also worked for the Cargo Service Station and G-Force Security.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Steven Arthur Gum & Paul Chandler Gum.
Those left to cherish his memory, his mother Wanda, two children, Carrie Gum of CA, Clifton Chandler Gum of Elgood. His companion of 20 years, Willa Cooper of the Home, Eight siblings: Ronnie & Lorna Gum of WA, Larry Joe & Makeia Gum, Debbie Hubbard all of VA, John Robert Gum of SC, Roy Clyde Gum & friend Lindsea of Athens, Randy Gum & friend Susan of Princeton, Howard Gum & friend Shanna, Rhonda & Art Hodges all of Athens. A host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday at Noon at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery, lower gate, Garden of Trinity.
Military honors will be given by the Mercer County Honor Guard.
Friends may visit with the family Sunday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
