Argil's Story

PETTRY — On January 8, 2017, Argil Brown White passed away from this earth to a glorious place called Heaven.
He was born February 16, 1925 at Elgood, WV.
Argil was the son of the late Joseph and Virgie Ferguson White. He was preceded in death by one sister Audessa Thompson and four brothers: Arnold, Arlo, Alpha and Arberdeen.
His faithful and loving wife left him for her heavenly mansion on July 5, 2016. They were married for 67 years. He has missed her more than words can tell since her passing.
He is survived by his sisters, Aretha Croy, Oakhurst, CA, Allilee Davis, Newman, GA, and Alma Conner, Athens, WV; Two sisters-in-law, Louise White, Catherine "Polly" Doyle, and a host of nieces and nephews. Two of his great-nephews were special brothers Mark and Mike White. They brought him treats on Sunday and helped with is personal needs.
Argil and Jean Ann lived on the family farm for over fifty years. They raised Charolais cattle and were diligent keepers of the farm. Argil received the honor of being Soil Conservation Farmer of the year in 1973. This is a coveted honor among the area farmers. Argil was an employee of the Mercer County Board of Education Transportation Dept. working in the maintenance department and drove a school bus for many years.
Argil was a member of the Church of Christ at Pettry attending regularly until he became disabled. He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the Navy on board the aircraft carrier Rudyard Bay in the South Pacific.
Argil was known as a very quiet fellow-he would rather listen than talk-one usually learns more that way, right?
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road with Bruce Barilla officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites provided by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be friends: Datise Reed, Robert McManaway, Bill White, Len Alvis, Kevin Alvis, Jamie Marshall and nephews Mark and Mike White.
